Light is Right

29 March 2026 - 160mi - Light cars

The Lotus is back

Throughout the years we have not kept it a secret that we love light sports cars at Openroads. The best example of this is our very own fleet that contains a Morgan 3 Wheeler (550kg ready to drive) and a fantastic Lotus Exige S240 (910kg ready to drive). Sadly we had to miss the Lotus for 1254 days or 3 years and 5 months due to it being damaged by the dealer that was supposed to maintain it and even now the car is not fixed properly just yet. However we do have it back thus the Lotus is finally back on the road and this is something we want to celebrate with other like minded people. What better way to do so, than to drive it on the roads it was designed for.

We are not going to stick to just Lotus cars, we will welcome anyone who drives a lightweight vehicle or the lightest version of a special production car possible. That means any Elise or Exige qualify but we also welcome VX220/Speedsters, the Alfa 4C, Caterhams, Donkervoorts, Ariels, ... even a 911 GT3 is welcome as it is also a car that focusses on lightness and driving pleasure over the base Carrera. Vintage cars that blow away in light winds are also welcome. In short: we want the dedicated driving machines and their enthousiastic owners. Are you in doubt if you qualify? Then send us an Email.

The road tour

On Sunday March 29th, we will honor a philosophy that changed automotive history. Inspired by the legendary Colin Chapman, founder of Lotus Cars, "Light is Right" reminds us that performance isn’t just about power, but the elegance of simplicity, efficiency, and ingenuity.

These qualities we will discover together during a beautiful tour through Luxembourg, on the type of roads these cars were designed for. We'll meet at Café Coureur around 9:00 a.m., where we'll handle the registration and enjoy a drink with a view of the cars. Starting at 10:00, we'll head toward the Luxembourg border for the first stage along some of Europe's most enjoyable roads. After a drive of about two hours, we'll arrive at our lunch stop. There, we'll regroup, take a break, and share a meal while chatting about part one of the tour. After a well-deserved rest, we'll start our engines again and begin the second stage. Once again, the focus will be on beautiful roads, smooth asphalt and pure driving pleasure. Around 4:00 p.m., we'll return to Café Coureur, where we'll enjoy a well-prepared BBQ while reliving this fantastic day full of lightweight driving fun. A not-to-be-missed event.

Café Coureur

Café Coureur is a new establishment near Houffalize, less than 5 kilometres from the motorway, making it the ideal base for our Light is Right Rally. We will start the tour with a drink while we welcome you and process the registrations. We will also be guests here after the rally, where we will enjoy a BBQ with a choice of meat and fish, as well as many side dishes.

Address:

  • Café Coureur
  • Rue de la Roche 36
  • 6660 Houffalize
  • Belgium
The end point of the road tour is also at Café Coureur. Participants can leave a car on the parking lot free of charge during the event.
